Homemade Rustic Croutons With A Simple Salad
INGREDIENTS
FOR THE HOMEMADE CROUTONS :
1 French baguette or sourdough loaf
5 tablespoons olive oil
garlic salt
onion powder
old bay spice
paprika
salt
pepper
OPTIONAL: red pepper flakes
FOR THE SIMPLE SALAD:
2 cups lettuce of your choice
5 package roma tomatoes
shaved Parmesan cheese
salt
pepper
lemon juice
INSTRUCTIONS
FOR THE HOMEMADE CROUTONS :
Roughly cube up semi large chunks of baguette
In large pan, on medium high heat, add 5 tablespoons of olive oil
Once olive oil is hot dump in cubed bread
Shake pan to coat the bread on all sides with oil
Sprinkle the oiled bread with garlic salt, onion powder, old bay, paprika, salt and pepper
Keep a watchful eye and flip croutons once browned
Once all sides have browned, turn off heat and remove pan
Let croutons cool to room temperature in the pan
Add to salad and serve
Croutons can be kept in an open container for up to 5 days
FOR THE SIMPLE SALAD :
Add the lettuce of your choice to a large bowl
Add cubed roma tomates
Top with parmesan cheese and homemade croutons
Squirt the juice of one lemon over entire bowl and pepper generously
Serve immediately
